The Fiery Billed Aracari (Pteroglossus frantzii) is one of two Aracari species found in Central America but only in Costa Rica and northern Panama, giving it the smallest range of any toucan species. Once considered a subspecies of the Collared Aracari, it now enjoys full species status. The Fiery Bill can be easily encountered in southeastern Costa Rica, especially in fruiting ficus trees, where it comes to eat and is more relaxed. Otherwise they are flighty and it is difficulty to get close. The Fiery Bill has never been bred in captivity in the U.S. and there are none in American aviculture at the present time. The Fiery Bill is not listed on CITES.
