A passerine bird, the Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus) belongs in the antbird family. This bird is native to Central South America, usully found in territorial pairs, living in common undergrowths and thickets. These birds feed on berries, bugs, ants, small lizards and other small insects. The Barred Antshrike makes a very distinctive laughing hu-hu-hu-hu-hu-hu-hu song, often having other Barred Antshrikes chime in on the song.

Physical Characteristics
Male - is barred all over with black and white, and dorns a white based black crest that is raised when displaying himself.

Female - is rufous above with a chestnut crest. Has a yellow iris, the sides of her head and neck are streaked with black, and the underparts have a rich buff, typically weighs 25g and reaches 16.5 cm long. The female lays two purple-marked creamy white eggs in a deep cup nest in a shrub, which are incubated by both sexes for 14 days to hatching. The chicks fledge in another 12-13 days.
